Backcountry Survival Ltd can offer young people course that encourages boundaries to be pushed, that enable personal development in knowledge as well as various other areas such as team-work, confidence and self-esteem. A strengthened understanding of the outdoors and how to treat it will be gained. The training provided in Bushcraft and Survival allows young people to work in and enjoy the outdoors, which we believe encourages a positive mindset.

It is our mission to encourage and develop young people in the experiences and opportunities we provide through Bushcraft and Survival Training.

John Muir Discovery Award £

What is the John Muir Discovery Award?

“The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. It supports people to connect with, enjoy and care for nature, landscape, and the
natural environment – wild places.”

What time do you have to commit?

To complete the John Muir Discovery Award you have to do 4 days or 25hrs+.

What do you have to do?

To achieve a John Muir Award, each participant must

  • Meet four Challenges – Discover, Explore, Conserve, Share.
  • Complete the required minimum time commitment
  • Show enthusiasm and commitment towards their involvement.
  • Have an awareness of John Muir.
  • Understand what the John Muir Award is and why they are participating.

The four challenges could see individuals:

Discover a wild space.

Explore their wild space.

Conserve their wild space.

Share their wild space.

The four challenges will have participants not only develop their knowledge about the great outdoors but also provide them with hands on experience with conserving and protecting nature. Alongside this, participants will also be taught bushcraft and survival skills.
